BRIEF HISTORY
The MSSSC has been responsible for regularising all sporting activities for Sikhs in Malaysia and Singapore. It was in 1952 that the first “GURDWARA CUP” hockey tournament was organised in Ipoh, Perak. This beautiful perpetual silver trophy was presented by the Central Police Sikh Gurdwara Ipoh and today has become a symbol of hockey supremacy amongst the Sikhs in Malaysia and Singapore.
Many other competitions, such as Football, Netball, Badminton, Golf, Kabadi and Tennis at the junior and senior levels have since been introduced and are held in conjunction with the Hockey Tournament, thus giving birth to the “Sikh Festival of Sports”.
These games have been held annually without a single year break since 1952. The host state of these games is selected on a rotation basis amongst the Member Affiliates of MSSSC. These games attract the largest gathering of Sikh sportsmen and sportswomen every year.
Other than the annual Sikh Festival or Sports, the MSSSC also organises an annual Cricket match between the Malaysian Sikhs and the Malaysian Malays. The MSSSC affiliates also take turns to organise Sports Development Programmes for youth in such as Hockey, Football and Netball.
Over the years the MSSSC Hockey Team had participated in tournaments such as Asean Pacific Sikhs Hockey Tournament which is organised on rotation basis by Hong Kong, Malaysia or Singapore. MSSSC also had the honor of participating at the Guru Nanak Hockey Tournament which is held annually in Los Angeles, United State of America.
